Position Overview

The System Pharmacy Program Manager is the organization’s subject matter expert (SME) and is responsible for overseeing the pharmacy program for multiple acute care pharmacies within one health system. The System Pharmacy Program Manager will plan, organize, and direct the pharmacy program efforts to monitor quality and effectiveness while ensuring their compliance with regulatory (local, state, federal) and accrediting agencies.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as primary liaison to interface pharmacy with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Vendor management which includes monitoring KPIs, vendor accountability, initiatives, contract compliance, and ensuring compliance with the organization’s policies, processes, procedures, and regulatory/accrediting agencies.
  • Prepares and submits management reports, as required.
  • Collaborate with IT for implementation and maintenance of pharmacy related systems (e.g., automated dispensing machines, order sets, EMRs, formulary management, etc.).
  • Effectively plan and design services that reflect the organization’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Collaborates with vendors to develop and maintain pharmacy program policies and procedures.
  • Actively participates in drug utilization and medication use processes, formulary management (P&T member), managing clinical programs, and monitoring patient outcomes to ensure patient safety.
  • Effectively collaborates with the purchasing and inventory management processes. Collaborates with vendors to provides timely reporting and variance explanations to operations and finance departments, as required.
  • Collaborates with vendors to establishes and monitors standards for safe, efficiently organized, and orderly practice and work environment ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts ongoing program analysis for continuous improvement. Lean Six Sigma training preferred.
  • Actively collaborates with other departments to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Proficient with Excel, Microsoft Power BI, or other analytics for data driven decision making.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork, with dedication to patient care and quality outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Job Functions

  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services in states where operating. Proficient in the use and application of new medications and technology.
  • Leadership and strong ability to influence in a matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively participate on interdisciplinary teams and committees.
  • Business acumen including profit/loss understanding, contract negotiations, and GPO function required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge of pathophysiology, interpretation of diagnostic criteria, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics.
  • Problem solving ability and analytical thinking required.
  • Ensure vendor completes timely renewal and maintenance of state pharmacy, DEA, and other pharmacy related licenses.
  • Annual onsite visits to all markets, as requested.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy, required.
  • 2 years pharmacy supervisor or manager level experience in a complex health care system.
  • Pharmacist License in good standing to practice pharmacy issued by a State Board of Pharmacy, required.
  • Must be current on license in one of our operating states (TX, NV, WI, OK or PA) and willing to obtain and maintain Pharmacy License in all states where operating within eighteen months of hire. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and other Microsoft products.
