Position Overview

The Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Administrator tracks and manages the LIS implementation and ongoing maintenance of the LIS in the delivery of laboratory services and laboratory information.  The purpose of this position is to prioritize, investigate and solve problems and questions pertaining to lab system applications, networking, interfaces, and date transmission as appropriate for the LIS and other related activities. This position is responsible for overseeing hardware and software installation, network troubleshooting and problem resolution, integration and interfaces, client oversight, preparation, and support as well as any data conversion decision-making, preparation and support.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides guidance regarding Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA '88) regulations, COLA, and DNV accreditation standards
  • Directs development, implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of LIS programs, policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Serves as LIS subject matter expert, high-level point of contact for the LIS vendor and vendors of interfaced instruments
  • Work with IT team members, vendors, and customers to coordinate project plans including timetables, testing, training, implementation dates and on LIS technical issues
  • Expertise in Laboratory Information System software
  • Expertise in HL-7 standards, interfaces, and communication
  • Expertise in report development from LIS
  • Responsible for coordinating the training program for LIS users
  • Responsible for implementing LIS security measures in accordance with state and federal laws, including HIPAA/HITECH regulations and document system history.
  • Assists in the execution of the testing plans and the validation of the proper operation of the LIS and any interfaced systems or instruments
  • Manages the integration of LIS, any lab instruments and/or peripheral lab equipment with reference labs
  • Utilizes expertise and relationships with vendors to troubleshoot and address various system issues, ensuring any changes do not adversely affect the LIS or laboratory operations
  • Evaluates and recommends system product enhancements, capabilities, and upgrades and revises the system to ensure efficient laboratory workflow
  • Oversees LIS maintenance activities
  • Provides LIS on call/after-hour support
  • Plans and manages project assignments, of varying scope, independently
  • Must have experience with Orchard system LIS
  • Must have experience with TempTrak devices is recommended

Other Job Functions

  • Attend staff meetings or other company sponsored or mandated meetings as required
  • Travel to all facility locations as required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Ability to work off-hours and on call when required
  • Up to 20% overnight travel

Basic Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of LIS management experience in a clinical setting plus a minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and communication skills
  • Strong demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to strong customer service objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders from many disciplines both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with HIPAA/HITECH regulations
  • Experience Developing, coordinating, and implementing system changes and upgrades, preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills required
  • System integration knowledge required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Visio, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Experience bringing projects and tasks to successful conclusion

Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, related Information Technology degree or 4 years equivalent experience SQL knowledge and experience including report writing
  • Experience with bench scale interfaces and macros
  • Software quality assurance testing, troubleshooting and validation experience
