Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to oversee the classification, recording, and interpretation of transactions and events of a financial nature. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Accounting Manager addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities (general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and year-end audit preparation) while additionally supervising the recordkeeping functions of accounts payable and miscellaneous receivables.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage the overall month-end close process including the maintenance of the closing calendar, review of the general ledger, and the preparation and distribution of applicable financial reports
  • Supervise the Accounting department to ensure all monthly financial reporting deadlines are met in accordance with Board of Directors and upper management expectations
  • Perform financial statement variance analysis on a monthly basis
  • Review consolidated and subsidiary financial statements and research issues to ensure proper US GAAP treatment
  • Monitor and ensure adequate internal controls are in place in conformance with US GAAP
  • Develop and monitor compliance with the company’s accounting policies and procedures
  • Monitor and analyzes the accounting department’s work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Respond to inquiries from the Director of Finance, CFO, and firm wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests, and the like
  • Complete Journal Entries and account reconciliations as needed
  • Review and approve Journal Entries and monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • Monitor employee compliance with company credit card monthly policies and procedures
  • Create financial ad hoc reports for upper management as needed
  • Coordinate with external auditors for interim and year-end audit processes including preparation of audit schedules, organization and review of supporting documentation for the audit, and ensure a clean and timely filing of each year-end financial statement audit
  • Research and maintain compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations
  • Ensure a clean and timely filing of annual Medicare cost reports
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of financial reporting procedures and stay current on US GAAP regulations by attending various continuing education seminars/conferences
  • Provide training and guidance to new and existing staff as needed
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each quarter and monitors and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff
  • Assist Assistant Controller and Controller with special projects as necessary

  • Attend staff meetings or other company sponsored or mandated meetings as required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Ability to work off-hours and overtime when required

Basic Qualifications

  • BBA in Accounting or BS in Accounting, required
  • CPA certification, required
  • Master’s in Business Administration or Master’s in Professional Accounting, preferred
  • 5+ years accounting experience, required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Outlook), required
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, required
  • Experience with Intacct accounting software, preferred
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, required
  • Supervisory experience, preferred
  • Knowledge about the Healthcare industry, preferred
  • Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication
