    Position Overview

    The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the logging, invoicing and processing of medical records and release of information requests for health services provided by the company.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Receive and log all medical record requests (verbal and written) from patients, attorneys, Social Security Administration and other health care facilities.
    • Generate invoices for records requests where applicable
    • Accurately complete all documentation related to record requests such as affidavits
    • Assimilate all documents indicated in the request such as the patient’s health record, imaging records and billing records
    • Process release of information forms and ensure that the document is scanned into the patient’s account
    • Process and log payments received from invoicing
    • Respond timely to all inquiries related to medical records
    • Assist Patient Account Specialist staff with various records requests or special projects as required
    • Assist Coding Department in tracking and resolving outstanding records requests for additional documentation or completion
    • Assist Coding Manager in tracking physician incomplete documentation for adjustments

    Other Job Functions

    • Attend staff meetings or other company sponsored or mandated meetings as required
    • Perform additional duties as assigned
    • Willingness and ability to work overtime

    Basic Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED, required
    • 2+ years medical records/health information management experience in a medical hospital or outpatient practice setting, required
    • Knowledge of regulatory standards as they relate to release of information and medical records requests, required
    • Experience with EMR/EHR and information systems, required
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office(Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook), required
    • Knowledge of external rules as they relate to patient privacy and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), preferred
    • Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication
