    Position Overview

    The Dietary Technician position will assist with the provision of food service and nutritional programs, under the supervision of a registered, licensed dietitian. The dietary technician may also assist with menu planning and meal preparation based on established guidelines, as well as assist with inventory management and ordering of food and supplies.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Observe patient intake, report progress and any dietary problems to dietitian.
    • Evaluate patient functioning, capabilities or health and report to dietitian or other health care staff as appropriate or directed.
    • Prepare meals for inpatients, with ability to adapt for dietary restrictions, preferences, allergies and intolerances.
    • Supervise food preparation
    • Manage kitchen with regard to cleanliness (meeting all state and city regulations), organization, and operation.
    • Provide education to patients, under the direction and approval of dietitian.
    • Assist with Inventory management: Cost control and ordering
    • Identify areas for staff in-service
    • Assist with researching food, nutrition, or food service topics as directed
    • Communicate with Hospital Administrator, Patient Access Manager, and Dietitian regarding kitchen and related issues.
    • Travel between other hospitals as needed or required.

    Other Job Functions

    • Must have own transportation.
    • Attend staff meetings or other company sponsored or mandated meetings as required
    • Perform additional duties as assigned

    Basic Qualifications

    • Completed a dietetic technician program by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, that includes 450 hours of supervised practice experience in various community programs, health-care and foodservice facilities and has completed at least a two-year Associate's degree at a U.S. regionally accredited college or university OR
    • Completed coursework in an ACEND-accredited didactic program or coordinated program in dietetics and has completed at least a Bachelor's degree at a U.S. regionally accredited college or university; after completing the degree and dietetics coursework, pass a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
    • Completed continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration
    • Minimum of two years of hospital experience
    • Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication
